Ismail Lagardien is former Executive Dean of Business and Economics Sciences at Nelson Mandela University, and has worked in the Office of the Chief Economist of the World Bank, and in the secretariat of the National Planning Commission in South Africa’s Presidency. He was educated at the London School of Economics, and has a PhD in International Political Economy from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. He worked as a journalist between 1980 and 1995. He is from Eldorado Park, and currently lives in Cape Town.
