Nurene is a media and communications professional who cut her teeth as a journalist at the tender
age of 15 at a local community radio station. Since graduating from the then Peninsula Technikon (now Cape Peninsula University of Technology) in 2004, she has worked in both mainstream and community newspapers where she covered a range of stories from housing protests and entertainment reviews to outbreak of the xenophobia attacks in Cape Town in 2008.
She is passionate about community issues and has also served as a communications consultant to numerous non-governmental organisations in Southern Africa. Nurene’s life has always been multi-faceted and she has always aimed to use her skills in as many different ways as possible. Her love for poetry, hip hop and music lead her to the Cape’s underground music scene where she has worked with a number of independent artists.
As a bullying survivor who suffers from Clinical Depression, Nurene also provides motivational talks and advocates for the destigmatising of mental illnesses. She hopes to share the knowledge entrusted to her with those around her, especially the future mothers of society and to create a lasting legacy.
She currently works as a freelance writer, sub-editor, artist profile manager and motivational speaker.
